My current projects

I'm a performer. At school, I'm in the acting troupe and the choir. And every year, I try out for the musical. Freshman year it was The Wiz. Last year, Bugsy Malone. This year....we don't know yet! But we auditioned. I got in.
We do the musical during "Project Ex", which is pretty much 3 weeks in February where the entire school picks a subject and sticks with it. Project Ex, for me as a performer, is the mecca of "knitting downtime." Usually, I have supporting roles, so I sit and knit while not practicing. Last year I made dishcloths. Lots of them. Why? There are 2 reasons!
1. My boyfriend of a year had recently dumped me, so I needed some consistency in my life
2. My parents were re-doing the kitchen.

This year, after finding out that I'd made it, I thought of dancewear. Sure, I could wear my normal tees and sweats this year, too, but...3rd time is NOT the charm. So I decided to make myself 2 things.

Hola

Hi. I'm Beth. I'm 16. I knit. Why do I knit? It's productive. Ridiculously so. I learned how two years ago (probably exactly two, now that I think about it) and I now find any minute spent watching TV or in class not knitting a minute wasted. I can't just sit anymore. It's a yearning. Plus, I've always liked being able to have something when I finish a big project. Ta-da. How (well)? Ummm, I'm beginnerish. I refuse to do lace, intarsia, cables or Fair Isle. Hats are probably my favorite thing to make...I'm also afraid to pick up DPNs. So....not that experienced. But I have been described as a "knittting genius" by classmates. And I've taught a good amount of people how. Here are some examples. I don't take pics of my knitting that often. It's a mistake. I recently made my first earflap hat and just yesterday gave it to the recipient without taking a picture of it :(Okay. I've now learned that inserting pics here is difficult. Apologies for the underlines.

So that's a hat I made this summer. A Gryffindor one, from Charmed Knits. I made a bunch of those while waiting for good old HP 7 to come out. Unfortunately, this was the Summer of Bad Gauge and 2 of them ended up huge. I gave them to my dad. They don't even fit him. :/

When do I knit?
I knit while watching TV, during class (Yes. That is how cool my school is. Does YOUR high school let people knit during class?) during choir practice, during play practice, during schoolwide meetings, at breakfast, during my Futurama date every Tuesday and Thursday, and when I'm going to sleep.

Yeah.

Why a blog?
I first got the idea when I attended my first knitting event. I went to see the Yarn Harlot in NYC (yeah. you know that huge post? all those pictures? i'm in a few. i'm wearing red and purple. she even accidentally took a picture of my bag.) and I was amazed at the amount of bloggers. Everyone had one. But do teenagers have knitting blogs? Not many.
